	We will employ transmission and reflection geometries to study diffraction from thermal phonons in solids and reconstructions of surfaces. In the case of phonon scattering from Si, preliminary experiments at APS have yielded interesting patterns that are in good agreement with theory. We would like to take more and better quality data, and will try the same measurements on amorphous substrates, quasi-crystals, SrTiO3, and some layer materials that are known to undergo CDW transitions. For surface reconstruction work, we will continue our attempt to observe the (7x7) reconstruction of Si(111).
