Woicik) and UIUC-MRL (A. Frenkel) to test the performance of the optics on 33ID for EXAFS experiments. The experiment will involve performing EXAFS studies: (1) over a wide energy range, e.g. 8-25 keV, (2) using different types of operation of the monochromator e.g. fixed and non-fixed exit mode, and (3) using both focussed and unfocussed beam. This experiment will provide the researchers from all three institutions the experience of operating a DCM from PSL, prior to the final design review of the DCM for 33BM. We will study well-defined systems e.g metal foils and samples where data has been collected at other facilities. Now that the stability issues of the DCM have been addressed and harmonic rejection mirrors have been installed we feel this will be a true test of 33ID. equipment+required: Ion chambers and associated electronics, XZ stage experiment: EXAFS studies using ID beam hazards: There are no hazards associated with the experiment. Data will be collected at room temperature on stable materials, e.g metal foils, and on catalysts e.g. Pt on alumina name: Simon R.
