We found clear evidence of magnetic scattering at the Re LIII and LII edges. We quickly searched for scattering at the LI edge and the Br K edge but saw no clear evidence. The experiment was somewhat limited by the geometry used and could clearly be enhanced by use of an extended face geometry with a cleaved and polished crystal. These things are already being discussed and can be easily performed here at ORNL to have a sample ready for the next cycle of user beamtime. In addition, we still would like to perform scattering (both magnetic resonant and non-magnetic) studies of the metal-insulator transition in Cd2Os2O7. This system has a metal-insulator transition at 225K and the hypothesis is that this transition is not accompanied by a structural tranformation. We could carefully measure lattice constant changes in an attempt to observe any structural changes at this transition temperature. In addition, susceptibility measurements suggest that this transition has peculiar magnetic properties and we would like to perform a search for some magnetic scattering. equipment+required: displex experiment: MagneticX-ray scattering study of K2ReBr6 and/or Cd2Os2O7 hazards: Cd2Os2O7 is slightly toxic name: Mark Lumsden / Stephen Nagler nonmembers: station: 33ID-D unacceptable+dates: all should be fine #QUERY_STRING: #REMOTE_HOST: lumsden.ssd.ornl.gov #REMOTE_ADDR: 128.219.37.91 #CONTENT_LENGTH: 1547 #HTTP_REFERER: http://www.uni.aps.anl.gov/unireq.htm #HTTP_USER_AGENT: Mozilla/4.6 [en] (X11; I; Linux 2.2.5-15 i686)
