Stress have been measured at 17.5 and 25 keV at NSLS. Laboratory XRD measurements will be done at low x-ray energies (5-8 keV)and using neutron diffraction. Lastly, using low energy x-ray and a layer removal technique, the stresses as a function of depth will be measured again. Finally all measurements will be compared. These measurements will to be made on two parts, using radiation at 30 keV. The measurements need to be done on one high angle reflection. We would like to measure three Phi angles; 0, 45 %26 90 degrees. We need to measure both positive and negative Psi angles. (3 phi x7 psi = 21 scans per sample) equipment+required: Kappa Goniometer, appropriate fixturing. Sample 1 is an I beam, approximatly 2" X 1" X 1" overall, with a 1/2" web thickness Sample 2 is a 2-3/4" diameter puck shape, 5/8" thick Measurements of the puck will be on the periphery. experiment: Residual stresses in diesel engine components. hazards: There are none. name: Tom Watkins new+request: on nonmembers: Tom Watkins, HTML, ORNL Roger England, Cummins Engine Company station: 33ID-D unacceptable+dates: The suggested visit dates from Gene Ice are November 9 through 16. These dates are acceptable to both investigators. #QUERY_STRING: #REMOTE_HOST: x14ant2.nsls.bnl.gov #REMOTE_ADDR: 130.199.193.105 #CONTENT_LENGTH: 1524 #HTTP_REFERER: http://www.uni.aps.anl.gov/unireq.htm #HTTP_USER_AGENT: Mozilla/4.03 [en] (WinNT; I)
