We have developed an in-situ heater stage based on a projection lamp shining on a mm-sized sample. This will allow us to equilibrate the samples at temperatures up to 1000C. We intend to measure the time- dependence of the equilibrium crystal shape (ECS), which can be obtained by inversion of the CXD pattern, at these high temperatures. Ex-situ experiments suggest the ECS evolves only slowly by surface diffusion-type processes. The CCD detector and diffraction arm we have built for the Huber diffractometer will be the same as our previous run. These could be modified to work with the Newport/Microcontrol instrument if needed. equipment+required: Huber or Newport diffractometer Oven and microscope in chem lab. experiment: In-situ high-temperature evolution of Au nanocrystals foreign+nationals: Ivan Vartaniants hazards: Oven preheating of samples in laboratory.
