	Previous work at UNICAT showed that the structure of colloidal  fillers was very important for property improvement in reinforced rubbers.  In the proposed work we consider the interplay of structure and interfaces in both in-situ and ex-situ reinforced systems.  We already have poly dimethyl siloxane elastomers with in situ precipitated silica reinforcement.  These samples were made with and with out interface coupling agents.  Of particular interest is the influence of the  coupling agent on the structure of the reinforcing phase and on the performance of the materials. We know form a preliminary experiment that USAX covers the regime of length scales relevant to this problem.
