Although there has been extensive work on the mechanism driving whisker growth, there is no clear consensus. We have recently measured Tn grain structure including local orientation and grain boundary types near Tn whiskers. This information is essential to some theories, but the strain distribution is also essential to test some theories of Tn whisker development. We will therefore measure the grain structure around a whisker and then determine the strain along 4 or 5 lines.
