The purpose of the proposed experiments is to understand the consequences of restricted geometry on the hydrogen-Nb miscibility behavior. XRD allows us to determine the correlation between the phase transformations within the gap and the loss of film coherency. We have completely characterized a thick film (1200 A) and now need to characterize a thin (250 A) film. These two film thickness are greater than and less than the critical film thickness for mismatch dislocation generation during film growth.
