We developed new transition metal oxide-based systems with an order of magnitude less Pt than ordinary catalyst. Pt is not in the metallic state but is partially oxydized, and the local environment is the key to the effectivenss. The purpose of the proposed experiment is to determine the pair-density function (PDF) using high-energy (30-40 keV) x-rays to study the local structure and nano-crystallinity of the catalytic systems. We will carry out a powder diffraction measurement with a Ge detector to separate fluorescence and Compton scattering, and convert the result into the PDF. equipment_required: experiment: Local Atomic Structure of Electro-catalysts for Fuel Cell Applications foreign_nationals: W.
