One method to obtain these anomalous dispersion coefficients is to measure the absorption spectrum and use a Kramers-Kronig integral. [rest of this taken from an email from Pete to Jenia] It is only necessary to measure the absorption spectrum of one sample, by name, Waspaloy 1400F/630h from a series of heat treatments applied to a specific nickel-base superalloy called Waspaloy(tm) which is used as the turbine blade of jet aircraft engines. I am reasonably confident that this sample has a thickness less than 25 micrometers. Nominal composition and other useful information are given below, along with a WWW link to the manufacturer. 1. Could you please measure the absorption spectrum from 7 - 10 keV in 1 eV steps? I will need Over this range, I expect that you will find response at the Fe K edge (7112 eV), the Co K edge (7709eV), and the Ni K edge (8333 eV) with the Ni edge being the strongest reponse. 2. Could you also measure the empty instrument response over the same range from 7 keV to 10 keV? I do not need as many data points for this, a 10 or 20 eV step size would be just fine. Choose a reasonable counting time (1 sec/point). I need file(s) with at least energy, monitor, and detector counts. Other data in the file are OK but that is the information I will need for my analysis of the anomalous scattering factors. It's OK if you do this in pieces (it _is_ a large keV range) but please make sure the pieces have a reasonable overlap. Also, make sure that the scans do not start or end within 100 eV of these energies: 7709 eV and 8333 eV.
