Napolitano’s group at Iowa State University. Low-growth rates are known to yield a distinctive columnar morphology with a star-shaped cross-section for twinned Si domains. Three-dimensional x-ray microscopy will be used to determine the relative orientation and connection paths along the Si crystallites. The goal is to understand how nucleation and growth controls particular microstructures in this eutectic system. equipment_required: experiment: Growth morphology in phase separated Al-Si foreign_nationals: hazards: none instrument: 34ID-E microbeam instrument_other: minimumdays: 1.66 name: John Budai new_request: ON nonmembers: unacceptable_dates: May 25 – July 5; Aug 15 – Aug 25 It would be helpful to have this experiment scheduled right before or right after other experiments scheduled for Yang, Larson or Budai. z34ID_change_undulator: no z34ID_details: No. Note, this experiment could be run parasitic under most conditions if the other station doesn't need to scan or change the undulator energy. z34ID_on_axis: no z34ID_parasitic: no z34ID_taper: no #REMOTE_HOST: jdbg4.ornl.gov #REMOTE_ADDR: 160.91.48.40 #CONTENT_LENGTH: 1267 #HTTP_REFERER: http://www.uni.aps.anl.gov/unireq.htm #HTTP_USER_AGENT: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.21; Mac_PowerPC)
