The local atomic structure of these solids, which is often different from the average structure, will be determined by this measurement. In the case of VO2 and V2O5, the nature of metal-insulator transition in this system is the focus. While they have been considered to be the ideal case for Mott transition recent data case strong doubt. The loca structure measurement will greatly clarify the situation.
