Recent diffuse scattering studies on YBa2Cu3O7 (123) system showed the presence of diffuse scattering at low temperatures that could be related to charge density waves. In 123, however, oxygen ordering makes the analysis very difficult. We have a single crystal of 1248 synthesised at high oxygen pressure that has no oxygen vacancy, and thus is ideally suited for this study. This measurement will determine the presence/absense of local charge inhomogeneity in the cuprates.
