Previous wide-angle diffraction measurements have indicated no significant structural difference between these samples on the atomic scale. AFM surface images show that there is an apparent difference in the microstructure at the micron-scale between these samples and we believe that there are structures smaller than the resolution of those images responsible for the observed difference in properties. Our brief investigation at 12ID (2004-12-06) of the SAXS from the two different PET samples showed a difference in the scattering for Q<0.05 1/A. Also the scattering on the area detector was anisotropic at the lowest Q vectors. With a 2 meter sample-detector distance, we were only able to achieve a Qmin of 0.007 1/A which was insufficient to make an estimate of the length scale of scatterers responsible for the observed anisotropy. The pinhole SAXS data from 12ID encourages us to investigate our two different samples with SB-USAXS. We expect that we would need no more than a single shift to get a meaningful result.
