These experiments are intended to provide insight into the structural changes that occur upon charging monodisperse gold nanoparticles. In the case of Au140 nanoparticles, coulomb blockade behavior is observed. However, the charging peaks seen in electrochemical experiments are not always spaced equipotentially. Effects of the ligand shell or structural changes may account for changes in capacitance.
