Preliminary experiments have shown that the phase transformations behave differently in these materials. We will use in-situ diffraction during heating which simulates welding conditions to compare the kinetics of the ferrite-austenite-ferrite transition in conventional and novel steels. Themal studies of the devitrification of iron-based structural amorphous materials, shows a complex series of phase transitions. We will use in-situ diffraction to determine the order in which crystalline phases appear.
