Strain fields caused by these particles in the matrix are responsible for the strengthening of the alloy. The goal of this study is to measure the diffuse (Huang) scattering on strain fields in the matrix due to nano size gamma' –phase and to determine it’s parameters. We plan to measure diffuse scattering contour maps around the (010), (011) and (111) type reflections, We also plan to analyze diffuse scattering around the superstructure reflections of the precipitates. Samples will be cooled in a Displex cryostat to reduce thermal scattering.
