Huang scattering from large-grained polycrystalline proton-irradiated iron using x-ray microbeam. This is a radiologically inert surrogate for neutron-irradiated material. Energy scans will be used to map diffuse scattering, comparing irradiated and non-irradiated regions. 2. Microdiffraction from sugar - barium nitrate composite samples for reciprocal space mapping of peak broadening due to strain, dislocations, and twins. This is a chemically nonreactive surrogate for energetic materials. This will require a second CCD detector to measure lower=angle scattering. Wire scans will be used to group reflections by grain, and energy scans will be used to separate radial and transverse components of peak broadening. equipment_required: Second CCD detector for lower-angle scattering; can the old CCD detector be used for this? experiment: micro-Huang scattering foreign_nationals: hazards: Barium nitrate is toxic; polymer gloves must be used when handling. instrument: 34ID-E microbeam instrument_other: minimumdays: 1 name: Eliot Specht new_request: ON nonmembers: submit: Submit unacceptable_dates: Oct. 14-26.
