By changing the amount of second metallic species (Ir, Re or Ru) we expect to see the evolution of different electronic and geometric structural behaviors of the supported catalysts. Static and dynamic structural behaviors in different atmosphere will be tested. The supported catalysts will be mounted in an home-built XAFS cell and XAFS measurements will be made under different atmosphere (4 % H2 in He, 99.99% He, 20% O2 in He) and at different sample temperatures ranging from 150 K to 700 K. The temperature will be controlled by liquid nitrogen and resistive heating element. Similar experiments have been performed at the beam line 33BM-B with monometallic Pt and Au catalysts and Pt-Ir bimetallic catalyst. Stainless steel tubing will be used for flow of all gases.
